We are to be a Large Church
This particular distinctive has been held in the heart of the leadership from day one. When there were only 30 gathering in a recreation centre in the outer suburbs, there was an overwhelming impression that this Church would become a large, multi-faceted Church which would impact our city, nation and world. We feel we are to be large for two reasons. The first is because we live in a large city full of people who we believe, given the right opportunity, would want to receive Jesus. In essence our church is the size of the city we live in; the people just don't know it yet. The second reason is because we see there is massive potential in mobilizing large numbers of people around Christ-centered causes.
We are to be a Charismatic Church
Charismatic, in the sense that we fully expect the Holy Spirit to equip and empower us as we all go about the work of Christian ministry, reaching people for Christ and making disciples. We believe and embrace the many gifts of the Holy Spirit but are careful to ensure that our primary focus is to reach out to others, rather than becoming a 'holy huddle'. Charismatic theology can become both selfish and self-defeating when it is divorced from practical Christian living, service and evangelism.
We are to be a Contemporary Church
The word 'contemporary' simply means that we are relevant to our culture. We believe the Church should communicate in a way that will reach both the saint and the sinner, and that the truths applied to Christianity should not be lost in the haze of theological jargon and religious form. This particular distinctive is incredibly refreshing to many who are seeking God and yet have been turned off by the bureaucracy and rigidity that is found in many forms of Christianity.
We are to be a Creative Church
We feel that God has gifted us as a Church to be creative in how we reach people with the message of Jesus and express His greatness in our city. While we are not into doing things different just to be trendy, we do believe God has called us to be a church filled with His creativity, not afraid to be innovative in how we do church.
We are to be an International Church
That we will have in one Church many nations of the world as a worshipping community, and that we will also be a blessing to the nations of the world represented amongst us. (Revelation 7:9-10)
